We've always prided ourselves on our team spirit and ability to upset the apple cart at times, while never reachng the great heights we hoped for, but even that seems a million miles away at the moment. The basics seem beyond us at times, while decision making, which we always impress on the lads as being very important is now down to "do I feel like trying or not?" And the answer is "not" at the moment. Hard work, dedication and concentration from all of us is the only way forward. After a poor show and a 5.1 cup defeat last week Crofton produced a much better performance and a 5.1 league win at home to St Joe's. Crofton made a great start and deservedly went in front through Dan Hall but the lead was short lived due to some poor work at the back. Unlike last week though Crofton kept the ball, got it on the floor and the goals their football deserved eventully came. Josh Marsh scoring a hat trick and Hall grabbing his second. Sam Mackay was excellant at the back along side Ben Fowler, new signing Aaron Brook again impressed and in midfield Sam Jackson, Matty Tate, Jake Drury and Marsh controlled the game. Three players missing again this week, if we ever get a full turn out we might do okay.
A depleted Crofton side made a poor Wakefield Jets look good when we allowed them to beat us 5-1. For half the match Crofton played with 10 men when an off the ball incident involving Jets player No 16 lashing out, resulted in a Crofton player breaking his wrist. Even though it was Crofton who started the brighter of the two sides and were the first to score, we allowed the Jets to get 2 scrappy goals before half time. The second half saw Jets get a peach of a goal to make it 3-1. After squandering numourous chances Jets main striker eventually found the net due to a mistake by Croftons defence to make it 4-1. In the dying seconds Crofton conceded a very harsh penalty when one of the Jets players dived in the box which would have won him a gold medal in the olympics. Jets scored the penalty making it 5-1 and just as it restarted the final whistle blew. Players of the match went to Croftons keeper Ryan Batty and Jack Hall. Yes it was hard today boys playing with no subs and down to 10 men but keep your heads up and lets get back to our best for next week in the County Cup against Killamarsh
crofton played there first game of the season and had a fantastic start with graet passing good ball work and more talking, well done to zak who played out of position at left back and james who stepped in and formed a strong defence with chappy and joe, well done to keeper ryan and nick callum mikey and macca in midfield who played some good ball to warren and ozzy up front ho linked well. Crofton took the lead with nick scoring and then warren following to make it 2 - 0 but normy got one back just before half time to make it 2-1. Crofton kept up the hard work after half time with warren scoring but normy sneaked one back to make it 3 -2 to ease the pressure ozzy hit the net to give crofton the 4 -2 win.
well done lads keep up the hard work
mom went to all the team ryan, zak, chappy, james, joe, callum, macca, mikey, nick, warren and ozzy
To date this season we have played one friendly, two league games and one cup fixture. On 7th September we began our campaign with a friendly away at Shafton Juniors. We played two games. The first we lost 4-1 which flattered the home team after we made a bright start to the game. Striker Tom Jubb was the scorer. Joint players of the match were Lewis Sullivan and Harrison Calvo. The second game was much more even contest where we lost 4-3 in a tight game that could have gone either way. Lewis Sullivan weighed in with two goals with another by Harrison Calvo. Lewis Sullivan capped a fine performance with the player of the match award. Our first league game began with a home game against Kellingley on 14th September. The first game ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat for us. Again after a bright start we faded. The joint players of the match were Shane Sharkey and Kevin Yik. The friendly second game was much closer and we drew 0-0 with William Abbatt putting in a sterling defensive performance. Our 2nd league fixture on 21st September took us to Leeds against Middleton Park. With the sun shining the players clicked into top gear and produced a superb performance winning 11-2! Harrison Calvo bagged five goals in a player of the match performance. The other scorers were Lewis Sullivan with 2 goals, Tom Jubb 2 goals, Tobey Adey with his first ever goal for the club and Shane Sharkey. The whole team deserved praise for a splendid team effort. The friendly second game ended with a hard fought 0-0 draw with goalkeeper James Turner saving a penalty and winning the player of the match award. On 28th September we had a cup fixture at home against Ward Green. The first game sadly ended with a disappointing 0-3 defeat however the stand out performance was by goalkeeper James Turner with the player of the match award. The second friendly game was a tighter affair but the score again was a disappointing a 0-4 defeat but again James in goal did us proud and collected a second player of the match award. A rare double award, well done to James. That complete the season to date. Now I've got my password sorted again I intend to update on a match by match basis. All in all the players are developing and at times are capable of great passing. All we are lacking is a bit of consistency. Gary Heseltine. Submitted by garyheseltine
Although a number of Crofton players chose to do other things and leave a side of defenders and 2 goalkeepers this was a poor result. Crofton beat local rivals Durkar 5.1 pre season but when it counted Crofton were second best. Durkar went ahead early but the visitors drew level through Matty Tate and should have got to half time infront but for some poor finishing. After the break Durkar took control as Crofton tried to juggle players around and although the result flattered the home side the best team on the day went through.
Crofton attacked from the first whistle and were soon rewarded when Josh Buxton scored. Crofton dominated the first half but could not capitalize and went into the break with a slim lead. The second half was end to end and Pontefract fired home 2 goals in quick succession, but Crofton never let their heads go down and a great strike fron outside the box by Ross Hunter saw the ball go straight through the keepers hands into the net. Pontefract kept pressing and Croftons keeper Ryan Batty pulled off some fantastic saves to keep them at bay but they eventually found the net making it 3-2 to Pontefract. Crofton fired straight back when again from outside the box Ross Hunter struck a venomous shot that went straight over the keeper and into the top corner. Just as it was looking like extra time Pontefract got their forth to put them through to the next round. Players of the match were Johnathan Atack, Ryan Batty and Ross Hunter. Well done today boys we played some fantastic football.
Away to the champions and cup winners missing James, Dillon and suddenly Jordon after a bike accident, we expected the worst but the lads did us proud! On a cow pasture of a pitch which definitely levelled things we went at them when we got chance and Harrys good free kick was pounced on by Cracker and he angled in a lovely finish. But , as always is the case against these, they hit straight back. We gave away a nothing free-kick about 20 yards out and you can guess the rest. Full size goals - top corner - 1-1. Then it got worse. Josh clattered their forward as he was going away from goal. Penalty. 2-1. After half time their fast forwards were a constant threat and they made it 3. But we battled on and a sudden surge of determination saw Jack rattle home after good work by Jolyon on the right. Despite our best efforts we couldn't get another and on the day Hoyland played better than us. Our cup runneth is over! Man of Match Josh Field. Crofton started the better team and were soon in front with a great Josh Buxton header from a corner. Niall Phillips made it 2 for Crofton before Buxton once again struck with his head from a corner giving Crofton a comfortable 3 nil lead at half time. The second half saw Crofton not play as good as the first half and Normanton scored when a cross floated over Croftons stand in keeper Laine Ridge and into the net. Normanton were then awarded a penalty in the worst bit of refereeing i,ve seen(even their parents apologised). Normanton tucked the penalty away to leave an exciting 10 minutes of football to which Crofton battled on to make sure we got the win. Players of the match were Niall Phillips and Josh Buxton. Well done lads a great effort by everyone now lets play like that every week
At half time we were 2 goals down and 2 players down as Harry and Tim succumbed to what seemed like heatstroke on an unusually hot day. In the second half we also lost Beth with an injury and James with a walloped lug so a radically rejigged team did well to win the second half with a well deserved goal for Jordon. We set out to try and play football but in the end it was big hearts that saw us through in a much more determined performance than last week. Josh played well in goal and saved a penalty. We hit the post twice but the score was probably fair in the end as they were the better footballing team. Men of the match were Jordon Tolley and little Jon. His performance was particularly satisfying and his heart is officially the size of a dustbin lid (last week it was a pea!). Well done boys!! Hoyland away in the cup next week. Training 6pm - Sidings Wednesday
Crofton’s 18 month unbeaten run in league football came close to coming to an end away to Royston. Royston scored first and Crofton looked slow and second best all over the pitch. Eventually Josh Marsh equalised and Nathan Archer’s neat turn in the box earned him a penalty he converted himself. After the break Royston got lucky when a cross come shot found the top corner and Crofton’s pessimistic manager would have probably settled for a draw. All credit to the lads then who stepped up a gear and finally showed what they are capable of grabbed the 3 points with goals from joint players of the match Archer and Dan Hall. Aaron Brook (On debut) Jack Wright, and Harry Pell stood out for Crofton
